Joey Albert, is a 30- year veteran of the television and movie business. She had starred in movies alongside Philippine A-list comedians that included Dolphy, Tito, Vic and Joey. A concert queen who had performed all over the world, Miss Albert is also a well-known singer and songwriter, with a bunch of records and she says. “I used to stand up in dressers and sing with a hairbrush and deliver beauty pageant speeches in front of the mirror just like any other little girl... But never once did I think they would all come true.”
It all started in 1982, after she won the Dream Girl Filipina contest on TV in the Philippines. By 1983, Joey Albert had launched a singing career that swept the Philippine showbiz scene like a tsunami, winning every major singing and performing award given to local artists along the way: Best Female Artist three years in a row from 1983-1985; a Gold Record Award for her song Tell Me in 1986; then a Platinum Record Award for Iisa Pa Lamang in 1994. In between those years, Miss Albert also bagged at least 2 Awit Awards, plus a Famas and a Manila Film Festival trophy apiece.
From 1984 to the present, Joey Albert had headlined a series of sold-out concerts in the Philippines, Canada, the US, and in other countries, sometimes performing with her old barkadas, other well-known singers like Martin Nievera, Pops Fernandez, Gary Valenciano, and Zsa Zsa Padilla. Later in her career, she also hosted Bahay Kalinga, an award-winning outreach program at ABS-CBN.
Joey Albert migrated to Canada with her husband Vicente Pacis III and their two daughters, Trixie and Margarita in 1995. They came here, according to Miss Albert, to be able to live a successful and fulfilling family life, something that a show business life will not allow.
“My family remains my top priority,” Miss Albert says, “next only to God.
Nowadays, she owns and operates a Catholic daycare/preschool called The Good Shepherd Daycare in Coquitlam. “Teaching was always my second love”, she admits. Yet Joey Albert, like most super-moms, still finds time to sing and perform for her audience, in between looking after her family and running her preschool.
